Learning Support Assistant and Keyworker for Primary Provision

Learning Support Assistant & Key Worker - LEAP Primary Provision

Scale 6, term time only

(£26,320 - £27,277 actual annual salary)

September 2022

London East AP (LEAP) is a successful, high-achieving KS3, KS4 and Post-16 alternative provision located in Tower Hamlets.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, calm and patient Learning Support Assistant/Key Worker to support our pupils at our new primary provision centre in Stepney Green.

This post involves supporting the Primary Lead and our Primary SEN teacher in the day to day running of our new primary age provision at LEAP.

In addition to supporting our youngest learners at LEAP with their learning and academic progress in small group classes of three pupils, you will also assist our primary teachers with the behaviour management of some of our most vulnerable children who will, at times, struggle to regulate their emotions and responses to the world around them.

You will also be the go-to person for pupils on a day to day basis as well as offer ongoing support to parents and other LEAP specialists in managing and assessing our youngest learners’ needs.

Supporting families and mainstream schools with the management and reintegration back into mainstream of our youngest learners will be the focus of our LEAP primary provision.

As part of this work, we will focus on the teaching of literacy, numeracy and reading skills within a topic-based curriculum in order to ensure our pupils don’t miss out on their learning while they are being assessed for their learning and behaviour needs.

Our Learning Support Assistants and Key workers will focus their work with our pupils in a multitude of ways:

1. Supporting day to day attendance and punctuality to school, liaising with parents and carers, removing barriers to school attendance and the enjoyment of school.

2. Advocating and supporting our pupils in and out of lessons with behaviour, wellbeing and learning. Working to improving the progress, academically, behaviourally and socially, of all our primary aged pupils.

3. Liaising with colleagues and external agencies to engage in multi-agency work in order to ensure the effective safeguarding and child protection of some of the most vulnerable primary aged children in Tower Hamlets.

In order to be able to work with our students successfully, candidates must have strong literacy and numeracy skills and the academic ability to liaise with external agencies and professionals effectively and professionally.

This is a full-time post, term time only, and offered at SCALE 6.

Those wishing to be considered for the role should complete an application form and return to Kathryn Ryan, School Business Manager. Please be aware that we are unable to accept CVs.

We would welcome and encourage potential candidates to visit our schools. Please telephone or email to arrange this or for an application pack.

London East Alternative Provision is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to undergo safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure and Barred List Checks.
