SENDCo for Alternative Provision – London East AP (LEAP)

Inner London Main Scale, TLR 2a (£4,276)

plus SEN allowance of £2,539

London East Alternative Provision (LEAP) is a highly-successful, high-achieving, inner-city school, delivering transformative education to young people of all ages from Primary through to post-16.

We currently provide an alternative education to around 275 students across the full age range, from Primary to Post-16, across three separate sites in Tower Hamlets.

This is a particularly exciting time to be joining our team, as we have increased the number of our provisions across the borough of Tower Hamlets by opening our new satellite centre in the heart of the Isle of Dogs, near Canary Wharf, and have expanded our already highly committed team of teachers and support staff.

Applications are invited from talented, hard-working and motivated individuals for the post of SENDCo for our secondary provisions in Tower Hamlets.

As the SENDCo you will work closely with our leadership team in managing the school’s systems for Special Educational and Additional Learning Needs. You will collaborate with our Inclusion Lead and oversee the day to day support of some of our most vulnerable and challenging young people at LEAP.

You will support our staff in their awareness and understanding of our students’ needs and inclusive approaches and strategies in teaching and learning, as well as oversee screening processes and manage the school’s SEN cohort alongside our existing SENDCOs, all of whom are experienced, dedicated and hard-working practitioners at LEAP.

You will also play and important role communicating with families and external agencies, share and support their understanding of a child’s needs, set meaningful targets for joint working and review plans and provisions for our students’ support.

Our students need much more than excellent classroom practitioners with good subject knowledge: they need someone with experience of and a preference for working with hard to reach, often vulnerable children.

They need teachers who will care about their progress, practitioners who are able to support them with their personal development and wellbeing through education. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the LEAP aims, values and ethos and a proven track record of delivering excellent outcomes for students, including those with complex behavioural and SEND needs.

If supporting struggling young people, with plenty of scope for getting to know all your students really well and having productive and positive relationships with them sounds like you, then we would very much welcome your application.
