Letters to parents

September 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to the academic school year of 2021-2022! After last year’s challenges we are looking towards a hopefully calmer and less disrupted school year.

Despite the relaxing of Covid 19 rules and regulations, we still need to be mindful of its potential impact, as the Delta variant is prevalent and potent. Covid 19 is here to stay and we will all have to learn to live with it, whilst offering your child the best possible education and preparing them for their next step, be that college or the world of work.

Your child will be given Covid 19 home test kits – please can you ensure they test twice a week until further notice. We need to protect each other and ensure there are no outbreaks at LEAP.

If you are unable to do the test at home, we are happy to support your child at school.

Masks are not mandatory at school anymore, but your child may wear one if they prefer.

We will encourage regular handwashing as well as sanitising, and ensure all classrooms are well ventilated, as outlined in government guidelines.

You are not required to self-isolate if:

  • you are under 18 years and 6 months old
  • you have been double vaccinated
  • you are exempt from vaccination for medical reasons

Students should not attend school if they have

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • lost their sense of smell and taste
  • tested positive or have been told to quarantine

If your child has symptoms at school or tests positive at school, you are required to pick them up from school immediately.

You will also be required to take the more accurate PCR test, which you can order online, we can assist you with ordering this test, should you need help.

If the PCR test is negative, your child must return to school.

If the PCR test is positive, your child must self-isolate at home for 10 days.

We will test all students and staff twice at the beginning of term to ensure we are all
Covid 19 free.

Please see our Covid 19 ‘What if’ guide attached to this letter.

Please continue working with us and ensure your child attends school every day. Too much learning time has already been lost due to Covid 19 since March 2020.

If you have any concerns, please speak to your child’s key worker or contact me directly on the above number/email address, we will support you and your child in any way we can.

Yours Sincerely

Astrid Schon
