Reintegration

Reintegration at LEAP

Reintegration of students from LEAP back into mainstream schools is one of the core principles that we aim to achieve at LEAP. We fully understand that for most children to achieve and succeed in later life it is best that they do this in a mainstream environment.

We work within the remits of Tower Hamlet Fair Access Protocols-https://www.the-partnership.org.uk/resources/fair-access-protocol- and there are two different pathways available.

  1. Off Site Placements to Improve Behaviour

Off- Site Placements are used by school as a way for a child to use the expertise that exists at LEAP to explore the difficulties, problems or worries that a child maybe presenting with at school. In this referral process, the child will attend LEAP for 8 weeks. Targets will be set by the mainstream school, child, parents and LEAP and working collaboratively the aim is to re-engage and re-set students with learning and the wider aspects of schooling.

All referrals for off-site placements are directed via the FAP panel. There should always be a clear idea from the mainstream school what the intended effect on the child of this placement will be.

After the 8 weeks, children will return with a transition package back to their mainstream school. LEAP will offer advice and guidance to the mainstream school with regards to support, challenge and also potential next steps for all involved with the education of the child.

  1. Transitional Manage Moves

 https://www.the-partnership.org.uk/files/resources/fair-access-protocol-school-resources/FAP_Managed_Move_Parent_Leaflet_Nov_2018.pdf

Transitional Manage Moves are used where school has become too challenging for both child and school and it has been agreed by all people involved: child, parent and school that a fresh start in a new mainstream school in Tower Hamlets would be of benefit.

At this point a referral via FAP would be made for a minimum of an 8-week programme at LEAP in order to work with the child and parents to work on understanding the difficulties and challenges that were present at school, and work towards aiming to find different approaches and strategies for coping in a mainstream in a more effective way.

We will work with the Fair Access Panel, parents and children to identify a new school, support the transition into the new school and also review and support the child during this important period of time.

We have great links with all secondary schools and work well to ensure that all students are given a second chance in order to try and remain in mainstream. We have a good track record of success in this area and are proud of this work.
